Sneak preview for potential buyers of Mazda’s CX-5
More than 700 people will take part in what the brand has dubbed its VIP tour.
Mazda has never previously undertaken such an event, underlying the perceived importance of the CX-5 to the brand’s future sales.
The first event was held last week at the SMMT headquarters in London and Mazda UK managing director Jeremy Thomson says that four more will be held across the country in the coming weeks.
“Those taking part in the tour are people who have asked to be kept informed about the CX-5 on Mazda’s pre-launch website and early pre -order customers; others have come via Facebook”, Thompson says.
“So much of this car is about test driving,” he adds, describing the car as “transformational – the dawn of a new era for the brand and for what customers can expect from Mazda.
“I have no doubt that it will transform our fortunes.”
Thompson highlights “best in class CO2 and outstanding MPG, with a driving package that customers will want” to underline his optimism.
He is forecasting 3,000-4,000 annual sales but admits that one challenge will be getting a sufficient slice of production, revealing that in its first month on sale in Japan, dealers took eight months worth of orders.
CX-5 prices start at £21,395 for the 2.0-litre SE-L petrol and from £22,995 for the 2.2-litre diesel.
