Vauxhall offers more down to earth Ampera
Vauxhall has shaved the price of its Ampera electric car with the launch of a new entry-level version.
The Ampera Earth slices £2,225 off the price of the car, which with the Government plug-in grant is now available for £5 under the £30,000 marker.
The Ampera, which is powered by an electric motor with a small petrol engine providing charging backup when needed, is already proving a success, including winning European Car of the Year.
The Earth version retains such standard features as DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connection, but makes do without the front and rear park assist and rear parking camera, the front heated seats and leather steering wheel and seats supplied with the Positiv model.
The new Ampera model is offered in four exterior colours and in a standard interior trim of black cloth.
Vauxhall now has 24 dealers able to sell the Ampera, and says that as a result 95 per cent of potential UK customers are within one hour’s drive of a dealer. Each has two sales specialists and two in aftersales, able to work with the specialist electrical equipment in the car.
The brand also has an ongoing deal with Biritsh Gas, which is offering free home surveys for potential customers, offering advice on the most effective charging options.
